CM Sukhu rallies youth, police in Hamirpur to combat chitta menace

Eyeing to achieve the goal of becoming a Green Energy State by next year, Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu Thursday directed the Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (HPPCL) to fast-track the execution of hydro, solar, and green energy projects to strengthen the state’s power infrastructure.
Chairing a review meeting of HPPCL in Shimla, the Chief Minister asked the Corporation to adopt a mission-mode approach for the timely completion of projects and to explore new opportunities in renewable energy generation.

He reviewed the 450 MW Shong Tong project and instructed that it be completed by December 2026, noting that more than 60 per cent of the work had already been done.

He also directed that the transmission line be established in parallel to ensure the timely evacuation of power.
The Chief Minister took stock of the 130 MW Kashang-II and III, 48 MW Chanju-III, 40 MW Renuka Dam, and 191 MW Thana Plaun hydroelectric power projects and asked the Corporation to adhere strictly to timelines.
He also emphasised the need to develop pump storage projects, directing HPPCL to initiate work on the proposed 1630 MW Renukaji and 270 MW Thana Plaun pump storage projects without delay.
Sukhu said that harnessing green energy remains a major priority of the state government and directed HPPCL to speed up ongoing solar projects and identify new sites for setting up additional plants.
He also reviewed the progress of the one MW green hydrogen plant at Nalagarh and directed that it be completed by June 2026.
The Chief Minister called for greater professionalism in HPPCL’s operations, underlining that Himachal Pradesh is poised to emerge as the country’s leading Green Energy State by next year.
